Office for the Aging

Nutrition Program

The Genesee County Office for the Aging operates a nutrition program that provides a daily nutritionally balanced hot meal to older persons. Besides promoting health and nutrition, this program is designed to promote opportunities to socialize with others and to improve access to a variety of social and health services.

All meals served provide at least one-third of the current dietary reference intakes as established by the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Science, National Research Council. Some special diets can be accommodated.

Meals are available, Monday through Friday, at one or more of the five congregate mealsites in the county and through our Home Delivered Meal program. Please see the Menu section of this website for menus for the current and upcoming months.

SENIOR FARMER’S MARKET NUTRITION PROGRAM

Each year Office for the Aging receives Farmers’ Market Coupons to distribute to income-qualified individuals who are 60 years of age or older.  The anticipated start date for distribution begins in July.

The program provides a $20 booklet of coupons to use at local Farmers’ Markets for fresh fruits and vegetables.  The income guidelines are released annually and will be available at the start of the program.  If you live in a subsidized senior housing complex you already qualify.  OFA staff arrange distribution sites throughout the county for your convenience.  Please call Office for the Aging at 585-343-1611 if you have any questions.
