Release Under Supervision

The Pre-Trial Release Program facilitates a defendant’s release from jail without financial conditions by identifying appropriate defendants for Release on Recognizance (ROR) and Release under Supervision (RUS).

RUS refers to the defendant's release on the promise to appear in court with other conditions that may restrain the defendant’s behavior and movements that are monitored by Genesee Justice.  The restrictions vary and may include obtaining evaluations for alcohol, drug and mental health, random drug and alcohol testing, curfew checks by law enforcement, and obeying orders of protection.

Pre-Trial Release Counselors interview the defendant in jail and provide verified information to the judges to determine if the defendant is appropriate for non-financial release.  This program seeks to reduce disparities in the delivery of services and maximize effectiveness to increase fairness and equality with regard to pre-trial release and detention while ensuring public safety
