Overview

Genesee County officially adopted its Comprehensive Plan in 1997. The Plan is updated on a yearly basis through monitoring reports updates (see most recent reports below).  A link to a PDF of the original Plan is available above. Overseeing the implementation of the Plan is the Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee, comprised of business leaders, elected officials, department heads and others. Currently the Steering Committee has 20 members. Appointment to the Steering Committee is on a volunteer basis. In addition to the Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee, 10 Focus Groups have been established to monitor the County's progress towards achieving the Recommended Actions within the Comprehensive Plan, and also suggest new Actions for consideration. The 10 Focus Groups are:

Education and Government Administration

  • Education and Government Administration
  • Land Use, Environment, and Place-making
  • Economic and Workforce Development
  • Housing Opportunities
  • Community Wellness
  • Criminal Justice and Emergency Management
  • Parks, Arts, Recreation and Culture
  • Transportation and Mobility
  • Technology and Utilities
  • Agriculture and Food Production

The Focus Groups meet to discuss the recommended actions and how their respective agencies and others are pursuing the implementation of the Comprehensive Plan recommendations. Membership to the Focus Groups is voluntary. For more information please contact the Department of Planning at (585) 815-7901 between 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM for more information.
