Legal Assistance

Center for Elder Law and Justice

The Genesee County Office for the Aging offers consultations with a legal advisor on issues such as:

  • Medicaid eligibility
  • Planning in the event of chronic care
  • Preparing living wills and health care proxies
  • Assigning a power of attorney
  • Landlord/Tenant Disputes
  • Consumer Problems

The types of assistance available are based on the criteria established in the Federal Older American's Act.

Legal advisors from Legal Services for the Elderly, Disabled, or Disadvantaged of W.N.Y. are available for appointments the 2nd Friday of each month. Phone consultations may be available also.  To schedule an appointment, please contact the Genesee County Office for the Aging at (585) 343-1611.

Legal Aide

Neighborhood Legal Services, located at 45 Main St. in Batavia, offers legal service to clients with income at the poverty level or below. Priority is given to eligibility and fair hearings for Medicaid, SSI, public assistance and food stamps. For income guidelines and/or to schedule an appointment, contact the Neighborhood Legal Services at (585) 343-5450.
