ASSISTANT TRANSPORTATION SUPERVISOR
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Working under the direct supervision of the Transportation Supervisor, an incumbent in this title provides that employee assistance in carrying out his assignments in the implementation of the transportation program of a school district. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Assists in the supervision of school bus drivers;
Assists in making daily route assignments, to insure that all routes are covered, either by the regular driver or by a substitute;
Assists with the driver-training program;
Performs minor maintenance task, on district vehicles;
Assumes Transportation Supervisor's duties, in his absence.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITY AND/OR PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of the practices and procedures pertaining to the operation of a school bus fleet; good knowledge of automotive repair procedures, and of the terminology and tools of the trade; good knowledge of safety procedures and practices related to the operation of school buses; good knowledge of the New York State Motor Vehicle Law; ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinates; ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with others; dependability;
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EITHER:
- Five years of experience as a mechanic or driver, in a bus fleet operation;
OR: - Three years of experience in the maintenance of automotive equipment, including one year of supervisory experience;
OR: - A combination of experience and training equivalent to (A) and (B) above.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT FOR APPOINTMENT AND CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT:
Possession of an appropriate valid New York State Drivers License.
