ADULT SERVICES AIDE

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
This work involves the provision of supportive assistance to clients receiving services through the Adult Services Unit of the Department of Social Services.  The work is performed under the direct supervision of the Adult Services supervisor in accordance with established policies and procedures.  Does related work, as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Provides transportation for clients to medical, vocational, legal, recreational, mental health, and other necessary services;
Assists clients in the accomplishment of home management and related tasks;
Assist clients in finding appropriate housing and/or furnishing under guidelines sent by the Department of Social Services Public Assistance Unit;
Visits and/or provides telephone contacts to incapacitated clients;
Assists the casework staff in the completion of their duties;
Maintains accurate records and makes periodic or special reports as required;
May be assigned to work cooperatively with and provide assistance to Parent Aide, if appropriate.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND/OR PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge of the behavioral, emotional, and medical characteristics of the elderly client and physically or mentally impaired client; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with the impaired adults; concern for client well-being; dependability; ability to maintain records and make written and oral reports.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
