ADULT HOME SUPERVISOR

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
  Has responsibility for the daily operation of the Domiciliary Care Unit of the Genesee County Nursing Home.  Under the general direction of the Nursing Home Administrator, implements the policies of the facility by giving general supervision to the staff thereof, overseeing care of the Residents, and by programming and integrating the services of the facility with the Nursing Home and the community’s health and human service resources.  Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Under general supervision of Nursing Home Administrator, assures adherence to New   York State Department of Health Adult Home Regulations;
Advises Administrator of program needs and develops programs as required;
Program development, long range planning, implementation of new programs and consolidation/coordination of existing programs and services for Residents;
Works with families and Residents to develop programs;
Develops policies and procedures as needed to comply with regulations and to assist Residents in obtaining needed services and benefits;
Maintains records of admittance, history, discharge, and essential statistics of Residents;
Provides general supervision, hires, evaluates, and encourages growth and development of staff;
Oversees development and maintenance of employee work and Resident schedules;
Recommends and provides in-service education for staff;
Attends in-service education programs;
Coordinates services offered by other departments;
Serves as a member of various facility and community committees;
Coordinates community resources in the form of phone calls, visits to other agencies, and provides programs to inform the community about services available at the Adult Home;
Seeks out knowledge of other agencies’ programs and services and develops referral systems with them as appropriate;
Implements marketing tools and public relations activities;
Coordinates requisitions of supplies, as needed;
Conducts correspondence and submits a variety of reports.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND/OR PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Good knowledge of supervisory techniques and personnel management; good understanding of and sensitivity to aging, mental health, and disability issues and adult home regulatory requirements; working knowledge of community agencies, facilities, and services which can be utilized to aid the Residents; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with Residents and their caregivers; ability to interact effectively with other professional and non-professional personnel and community resources; tact; courtesy; integrity; ability to plan and supervise the work of others; good judgment; effective oral and written communication skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or possession of an appropriate equivalency diploma recognized by the NYS Department of Education, AND EITHER

  1. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Gerontology, Human Services, Psychology, or other related field AND two (2) years full-time paid experience working with older adults and working with health and human service delivery for older adults including two (2) years of full-time paid supervisory experience in an aging or health-related organization.

  2. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two year college or university with an Associate’s Degree in Social Work, Gerontology, Human Services, Psychology, or other related field AND four (4) years full time paid experience working with older adults and working with health and human service delivery for older adults including two (2) years of full-time paid supervisory experience in an aging or health-related organization.
    OR
  3. Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that evidence the ability to perform the above duties.
